The wells and the primary distribution system
Two warm wells (HH1 and HH2, 700 meters deep) are located In the north-west of Heerlen.
Two cold wells (HLN1 and HLN2, 200 meters deep) are located in the middle and southern part of Heerlen.
An intermediate well (HLN3, 450 meters) is located near the cold well HLN1.
A primary distribution grid is constructed between the wells and the local energy stations.

The locations
Location Heerlerheide Centre
This plan is situated in the north-west of Heerlen, on the concession of the former Oranje Nassau III pit near the two warm wells. The plans include the following building activities:

New buildings
- 33.000 m2 (330) dwellings (single family dwellings and residential buildings);
- 3.800 m2 commercial buildings;
- 2.500 m2 public and cultural buildings, including the energy station;
- 11.500 m2 health care buildings;
- 2.200 m2 educational buildings.
Total: 53.000 m2

Location SON (Stadspark Oranje Nassau)
This area is situated near the concessions of the Oranje Nassau I pit. In this area contains several new building plans. Also the existing office of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) is located here.

New buildings:
“Maankwartier”
This plan is situated near the central station of Heerlen and is part of a master plan to upgrade the total area around the central station. The plan consists of:
- 19.000 m2 offices;
- 12.100 m2(110 units ) dwellings’;
- 4.000 m2 hotel;
- 12.000 m2 large scale commercial;
- 2.000 m2 small scale commercial.
